I’ve been talking about the Marc Jacobs things I like for spring and summer because I’m still trying to stamp out the images in my mind of his fall 2008 RTW collection which was GOD AWFUL. I’ve always been a big fan of the clothes for all his lines which include Marc Jacobs, Marc for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. A closet full of his things proves that I put my money where my mouth is. But I’m still scratching my head because I just don’t know what happened here. (His other lines were not much better than the Marc Jacobs line partly illustrated above). Whatever could he have been inspired by? I can only think that it may have been the news. Perhaps televised images of religious fundamentalists of all stripes got to him and he decided to add a twist by putting them through a 1980s wringer. Bad idea. The result is shapeless, joyless clothes. Perhaps he’s also been affected by all his recent weight loss and he is suffering from some sort of body dysmorphic disorder. I don’t know. All I know is that overall, I definitely prefer the clothes of the “Before” Marc (bottom left) than of the “After” Marc (bottom right).
